Runyon Canyon w/ Bill Handley {English}

Join Prof. Handley (and his dog) from the English department on one of LA’s most famous hikes! Runyon Canyon is a 2.7-mile loop located in Hollywood on the East End of the Santa Monica Mountains. On our hike, we will get to see the Hollywood Sign, Griffith Parks and even more cute dogs. And we may even see the occasional celebrity?

PACKING LIST:

  • WATER (Hydrate don’t diedrate!)

  • SIGNED WAIVERS

  • Snacks if you want



Professor Handley is an associate professor in the English department, specializing in the study of literature and film of the American West in the 19th and 20th century. His most recent book is all about Ang Lee’s critically acclaimed Brokeback Mountain. He also has met an abundance of celebrities, so feel free to ask him about any of his celebrity encounters.

DIFFICULTY: 2/5

SCENERY: An easy breezy 2.7 mile loop with views of the Pacific Ocean to the west, and The Hollywood Sign and Griffith Observatory to the east!

FUN FACT: One of the canyon’s namesakes, Mrs. Ellen Runyon, was a very accomplished equestrian!
