PROFESSOR: DR. STUART MOON
DEPARTMENT: Chemistry
Dr. Stuart Moon earned his B.S. in Biochemistry from Auburn University in 2017 and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from USC in 2023. His doctoral research focused on protein modifications using organic chemistry and biochemistry techniques. He currently teaches chemistry courses, including general chemistry and organic chemistry. When he’s out of the classroom, you can often catch him doing the New York Times games or watching a musical! If given the opportunity, ask him about his cats!
Peak: Culver City Stairs
Difficulty: 2.5/5
The Culver City Stairs are an outdoor workout spot and trail featuring the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. With 282 uneven stone and concrete steps, this hillside climb leads to a 360-degree panoramic view of the Los Angeles Basin, Downtown LA, the San Gabriel Mountains, the Hollywood Sign, and the Pacific Ocean.
Fun Fact: Architects designed the Culver City stairs using recycled concrete to resemble ancient ruins unearthed during a dig. This design element led to 2-foot tall steps of uneven pace, creating an intense workout for climbers. The record for running up these 282 steps is just over 2 minutes!
