BONUS: Claremont Wilderness w/ Ruth Chung {Education}

  • Claremont Hills Wilderness Park Claremont (map)

Professor Ruth Chung is a psychologist who teaches in the master's program in marriage and family therapy at USC. She and her husband, Prof. David Yoo, a historian at UCLA, will be joining us on a hike in the beautiful foothills of Claremont near Mt. Baldy about 35 miles east of downtown LA. They were residents of Claremont for over 20 years and both taught previously at the Claremont Colleges. They will be the guides taking us on their favorite hike followed by a tour of downtown Claremont Village which is like a quaint old-fashioned Eastcoast college-town. We’ll check out the Sunday farmers market along with excellent cafes, bakeries, and eating options for lunch as well as bookstores and small shops.

Dr. Chung (her Starbucks name is Kate) grew up in South Korea as a child but moved to Los Angeles almost 30 years ago and has been living there ever since! She is an expert on Asian American cultural identity, mental health, and intergenerational conflict.
