PROFESSOR: RICHARD LEMARCHAND

DEPARTMENT: USC Games

Richard Lemarchand is a game designer, professor, writer, and consultant. He worked at Naughty Dog for eight years where he led or co-led the design of all three PlayStation 3 games in the Uncharted series, and he also helped to create the game series Gex and Soul Reaver at Crystal Dynamics. He is now an Associate Professor in the USC Games program, teaching game design, development, and production, and is the author of A Playful Production Process, for Game Designers (and Everyone), published by the MIT Press in October 2021.

Richard fell in love with the outdoors as a child, walking in the English countryside with his family and friends. As an ardent international traveler he’s hiked all around the world, from our own California coastline to the foothills of the Himalayas. He sees hiking as a moving meditation and an opportunity for play, and is looking forward to our Peaks and Professors adventure!

PEAK: MOUNT LOWE

DIFFICULTY: 2.5/5

SCENERY: Pretty views of the San Gabriels! Cool tunnel on the way! Mountainous Vibes

FUN FACT: Mt. Lowe is named after a professor, not a hardware store
