Join us for a trip to the amazing Santa Monica Mountains in Malibu with avid hiker and PhD student Rachel Newman! We will explore the scenic Backbone Trail to Sandstone Peak & Mishe Mokwa Trail. This 5.7 mile loop trail will be a fantastic way to start your weekend!

PACKING LIST:

  • Hiking boots (or a good pair of sneakers)

  • Lunch & Snacks

  • Water (at least 2L)

  • Sunscreen

  • Hat & Sunglasses

  • Waivers



PROFESSOR: RACHEL NEWMAN

RATE MY PROFESSOR: "Rachel is a fantastic professor!!"

Professor Newman is in her fourth year of a PhD program in English Literature at USC and studies 19th century British novels. She also teaches writing as an Assistant Lecturer for Thematic Option. She enjoys hiking and horseback riding in the LA area, and has spent time backpacking in the Eastern Sierras, culminating in a trip up Mount Whitney. Ask her about her hiking adventures, experience going to university in Canada, or passion for English Literature!


PEAK: SANDSTONE PEAK (BACKBONE & MISHE MOKWA TRAIL)

SCENERY: Enjoy stunning sandstone formations and breathtaking views from the top of Sandstone Peak and Inspiration point.

FUN FACT: If you’re lucky you could see rock climbers ascending the spectacular Echo Cliffs.
