PROFESSOR: Erika Wright
DEPARTMENT: Clinical Medical Education, English
RATE MY PROFESSOR: “Erika Wright is hands down one of the greatest professors I have ever taken. She really encourages lively discussions and structures the class/assignments in a very fun, interactive way. Go to office hours! She is very kind and simply wants everyone to do well.”
A professor of clinical medical education and undergraduate English (take ENGL 262 with her for GE-B!!), Dr. Wright’s areas of expertise combine her love of English and medicine. One of her recent works, “Reading for Health: Medical Narratives and the Nineteenth-Century Novel” examines the intersection between medicine and literature, demonstrating how health (as opposed to disease) has had a powerful shaping force on narrative form of the nineteenth century novel.
She’s also associate director of Keck’s HEAL (Humanities, Ethics/Economics, Arts, and the Law) Program, which prepares medical students to care for patients as complete human beings, not as injuries or illnesses. The program encompasses required pre-clinical and clinical coursework, electives, creative writing workshops, and guest speakers.
PEAK: Eagle Rock
