You're about to embark on a breathtaking hike with the one and only Julie Van Dam, a professor of French with a focus in Francophone studies in Dakar, Senegal, as well as Illness and Disability. We will traverse the Mishe Mokwa trail to reach Sandstone Peak, where we will literally be able to climb to the top of one of the highest peaks in Santa Monica-- what could be cooler than that?!

SCENERY: This beautiful loop has breathtaking views of the Santa Monica mountains and leads us from within the canyon to the very top of the peak!
FUN FACT: This trail is unique in that we get to scramble to the very top and peek our heads over the top of the mountain to see the ocean on the other side!

Dr. Van Dam began her studies in San Fransisco where she obtained her Bachelor's in French, and focused in Women's Studies. She then went on to obtain her Master's Degree From Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, Senegal, and then her Doctorate in French here at USC. Dr. Van Dam teaches many French courses at USC, with a focus in Francophone literature on topics such as illness and disability and literature and cinéma in Dakar, Senegal. She is so excited for our hike, and to meet all of you!
