Janet Batchler is an Associate Professor in the John Wells Division of Writing for Screen and Television, where she teaches feature screenwriting to everyone from freshmen to MFAs. This semester, she's reprising her popular class on the Harry Potter Franchise. Janet has been a professional screenwriter for more than 25 years; her most well-known film is Batman Forever (the one with Jim Carrey). She received her master's degree from UCLA in linguistics, but left before finishing her PhD when she discovered screenwriting, which lured her into the entertainment industry. Janet has written movies for every major studio, and she's ready to march around in circles holding a sign if the Writers Guild of America goes on strike this summer. Currently, she's working on her how-to book about screenwriting: Next Level Structure, and next spring she will debut a new GE class on screen adaptation ("From Page to Screen") that she created for SCA. When she's not writing or teaching, Janet enjoys musical theater, reading, travel, going to Disneyland, and dining out with friends.
