Spend the morning in LA’s lovely Griffith Park, and enjoy some epic views of rolling hills, mountains, and the downtown LA skyline with biology professor Rita Barakat! We will take a 2.4 mile hike to Mount Hollywood (and try some bird watching along the way).

Dr. Barakat ("Dr. B", she/ her) earned her Bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley in Neurobiology, and her PhD from USC in Neuroscience. She currently teaches BISC-230 (The Biology of the Brain) and BISC-220 (Cell Biology and Physiology). Her research background is in human behavioral and neuroimaging studies of reading and language, as well as applied psychology techniques to assess STEM educational programs. In her free time, Dr. Barakat enjoys singing (you can see her performing with the USC University Chorus) and bird-watching (or "birding").

SCENERY: 360-degree view around LA! You can see bright green hills, massive mountains, sparkling skyscrapers, and of course, the Hollywood sign.
FUN FACT: The original Hollywood sign was put up to advertise a real estate development and was only meant to last 18 months.
