Echo Mountain w/ Amy Cannon {Writing}

  • Echo Mountain 3302 Lake Avenue Altadena, CA, 91001 United States (map)

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Starting Spring 2023, all non-driver trip participant spots will be selected at random due to high demand. Links will accept sign-ups until 12AM Sunday

Back in the day, Echo Mountain was the site of a resort that drew tourists from all over the world to take in the views of Southern California. It was destroyed in a wildfire, but now we get to go on a 5.4 mile hike with writing professor Amy Cannon and see the ruins at the summit, where we’ll eat lunch and hang out!

PACKING LIST:

  • Sunscreen/hat/sunglasses

  • Hiking shoes

  • lunch!

  • H2O

  • WAIVERS

Professor Cannon is an expert in poetry and creative writing and a Thematic Option legend. This semester, she’s leading a reading salon on Hollywood and literature’s love affair with Los Angeles, as well as as writing seminar on what it truly means to do nothing — and how people have “done nothing” across different times and places.

PEAK: Echo Mountain

DIFFICULTY: 3/5

SCENERY: You’ll see the city on one side and mountains and forest on the other!

FUN FACT: Thaddeus Lowe, who built the resort, was an aeronautic inventor whose expertise was in balloons!
