PROFESSOR: Dr. Ulu Ulusoy

DEPARTMENT: Astronautical Engineering

Dr. Ulubilge Ulusoy, a.k.a. Ulu, recently earned his Ph.D. in Astronautical Engineering at USC, officially completing his astronautical engineering three-peat(!). His research—part of NASA’s HOME Institute—focuses on a human-AI teaming framework that enables bi-directional assistance between humans and AI for future space habitats, where astronauts work with AI-based systems instead of mission control.

Outside of research, Ulu is a regular guest lecturer in ASTE 499 and ASTE 524, where he explores future human spaceflight destinations around the solar system—and what it’ll take to actually get there.

On this trip, he’s your “professor” (don’t worry, no pop quizzes). And seriously—don’t ask him about Minions. Just... don’t.

PEAK: Palm Canyon + Murray Canyon

DIFFICULTY: 2/5

SCENERY: You have been wandering in the middle of the desert for ages only to stumble upon… this beautiful oasis!

FUN FACT: This trail is home to the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians!

TRIP LEAD: Jaxson

If you’re lucky, he may give you his review of the streams of water he sees here…
