Leo Carrillo w/ Rebecca Broyer {Chemistry}

IMPORTANT UPDATE: STARTING 11/5/2023 WE WILL BE REVERTING TO FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. Sign ups will open 9PM on Sundays of Wave release (instead of being open 9PM-12AM)

Unwind from midterms with a ~chill ~ 1 night beach camping trip at Leo Carrillo State Beach! We’ll explore some tide pools (look out for anemones, sea hares, snails….), scramble some rocks, imagine what it’s like to be a seagull nosediving towards the ground, and enjoy a nice sunset by the ocean before heading back to camp! Come for good vibes, good convo with Dr. Broyer + co, and some good ol car-camping grub :) Don’t worry, we’ll also spice things up with a nice lil hike the next morning :p

[note that this trip is on a Friday!!! aiming to leave campus by 2pm]

PACKING LIST:

  • Sleeping bag/pad if you have - we’ll provide if you don’t!

  • Refillable water bottle

  • Sandals + sturdy/hiking shoes

  • Towel

  • Flashlight/headlamp

  • Mess kit (plate, bowls, utensils)

  • Toothbrush + general life items

  • Sunscreen/sunglasses/hat

WE WILL PROVIDE:

  • Tents

  • Whatever gear you don’t have!

  • Food (but feel free to bring ur own snackies)



PROFESSOR: REBECCA BROYER

DEPARTMENT: CHEMISTRY

Dr. Broyer, a mainstay in the Chemistry Department at USC, is primarily focused on organic chemistry inside the classroom, but has vast and numerous outdoors interests outside of the classroom. Find her hiking, backpacking, surfing, or snowboarding - regardless of the season, she’ll be spending her free time outdoors.
