Clocking in at 7.2 miles with 1800 feet of elevation gain, this sure isn’t a hike for the faint of heart, but it sure is a rewarding one at that. Come along for the morning and part of the afternoon to have some chats about art with accomplished painting professor Karen Liebowitz and your super cool trip leads (one of which also happens to be studying architecture)!

PROFESSOR: KAREN LIEBOWITZ

Originally from New York, Karen Liebowitz is an artist based in Los Angeles, teaching painting and drawing at USC’s Roski School of Design. Her paintings are hybrids of classicism and fantasy, with a relationship to historical painting and the social ideals behind great murals with their figuration, large scale, and theatricality.

PEAK: Strawberry Peak

DIFFICULTY: 4/5

SCENERY: rolling green hills and, if the weather is just right, we will be ABOVE THE CLOUDS at the summit. unreal

FUN FACT: Strawberry Peak boasts the HIGHEST summit on the front range of the San Gabriel Mountains! Also aptly named Strawberry Peak because mountaineers agreed that it looked like an upside-down strawberry.

TRIP LEAD: HALO LYMAN

big time fan of strawberries from the usc farmer’s market.
